What are
your riding goals? Mainly
ride MORE…and ride as hard as I can without having a wreck or injury that would make me miss work or MORE rides. (Been there, Done that!) My racing goal is to do well enough to keep Zane from making
fun of me. Zane is good about reminding me that he is the better rider. He is always thinking of others.
Why do you ride? I started riding in 1988 because I loved being in the woods. I remember when I was a kid I used to try to ride an old 10 speed or banana seat bikes
through the woods where I grew up. Those
bikes were not up to the task. I was so excited when the first mountain bikes
became available. I was even happier when I was able to get my first bike, a
Bridgestone MB 3. WOW!! I was amazed
at where you could go on a mountain bike. Back then I rode by myself. Now I am
more amazed when I see Carol, Zane, and Haydn riding mountain bikes in the same woods I grew up in. Now I do not want to ride by myself. Why do I ride??…now…
because it’s a FAMILY THANG!
What advice would you give to a beginner rider? Don’t be intimidated, try it! “It” might be a race, riding with a better rider, or riding a tough trail
section. If you don’t do as well as you wanted, it’s not failure,
it’s experience. “In the middle of difficulty, lies opportunity”
– Einstein. Just don’t get scars from it. –Me
If you could upgrade anything on your bike what would it be?
The nut behind the wheel.
Worst Wipeout: I had a wreck years ago on the Little Blakely trails. The actual wreck was minor, my front end washed out on a downhill
turn. When I went down, my knee slid across a very, very, sharp rock. I cut my knee open and could see my knee cap. I managed to
ride out and went to the doctor to get cleaned up and sewn up. Within 24 hours
Carol had to take me to the Emergency Room because my leg had became swollen from infection.
Surgeons had to open my knee back up and redo everything. The rock had
cut my patellar tendon and scraped my bone. I ended up with a week long hospital
stay and missed work for almost 2 months. Now that I am slower I miss less work.
